Singapore River Festival

Be enticed as the inaugural Singapore River Festival brings you along a multi- faceted event celebrating the elements of water, heritage and entertainment after sundown. This festival promises you a never-ending fun in the Night Life of Singapore. In addition, as part of the celebration of this festival, there will be concerts on the river and a music festival along the river promenade. Not forgetting the Party-goers, who will be accompanied by the wide host of outdoor parties by the river.
As this festival celebrates its heritage, water and entertainment. Part of the efforts also features a outdoor museum by the river. The
Tiger Translate Museum.

For the first time, contemporary and pop art pieces and installations from more than 20 international modern art maestros will command attention at various public spaces along the Singapore River. Tiger Translate is part of Tiger Beer’s global initiative to highlight artistic talent in various creative fields through a series of exhibitions, events and publications.

The showcase also features an interactive element, where the public can ‘unveil’ art pieces along the underpasses by peeling off the decals covering the panels. They may even stand a chance to take home a replica of their favourite piece.
I was amazed at how capable artists are at using these tools of art to communicate with their audiences. Just by a mere underpass frequented by the morning rush and the late night crowd, art is able to reach people at a different platform.
Besides the Tiger Translate, the festival also featured Clarke Quay's River Party including concerts on the river with international and local artistes. This year's highlights of the festival were the spectacular bumboat parade and dance drama "Legenda Singapura" by Singapore River Cruises, Singapore River's first ever mega illusion show "The Impossible Journey" by J C Sum and "Magic Babe" Ning @ Central, the 10-day Timbre MusicFest at Empress Place, pub walks by Journeys and outdoor parties, among others.

The Singapore River Festival's major highlight was holding the event in conjunction with the Singapore Grand Prix Season for the first time. For those who have missed it this year, don't be disheartened, as there are more Singapore GP to be expected in the near future! The deafening sounds of the race could also be heard even from Bugis Street! Fernando Alonso is the man who has stamped his name in the history books with victory for Renault in the 2008 FORMULA ONE™ Singtel Singapore Grand Prix. Breath-taking experience of a night race, one must never miss!

Our personal experiences!“I agree that a night spent along Singapore River would definitely be your greatest night ever! Singapore River Festival 2008 was a great success and I really did enjoy it! With concerts, performances and parties going on at the same time, it really is THAT happening! Especially when it is during the Singapore Grand Prix period, the nights became even more exciting with the constant loud ZOOMs from the Formula 1 cars engines, and with the event telecasted LIVE on the television. It was really a refreshing experience!” – Wenyi
"Night life at Singapore River have always be fantastic! I could clearly remember the days when I took photos with my family while enjoying the cool sea breeze!" -Fabian
